K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College, established in 1997, is named in honor of the renowned Tamil scholar, K.A.P. Viswanatham. Initially offering 100 undergraduate seats in medicine, the institution expanded its academic horizons by introducing postgraduate programs in 2007. The college is affiliated with the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, a key teaching hospital located just 2 kilometers from the campus. Operated under the Government of Tamil Nadu and recognized by the National Medical Commission, the college is situated in Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Tamil Nadu. In 2010, it was ranked third in preference during medical counseling, reflecting its strong academic reputation and student satisfaction.
Admission
The college enrolls 150 students annually into its MBBS program through the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). Admissions are divided into two quotas: 85% of the seats are reserved under the State Quota, managed by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Government of Tamil Nadu, while the remaining 15% come under the All India Quota, allotted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), Government of India.

Facilities
K.A.P. Viswanatham Medical College boasts over 30 academic departments, fostering a comprehensive learning environment. The campus includes three hostels for men and two for women, providing comfortable accommodation for students. A 750-seat stadium supports various college events and sports activities.
The college is equipped with four spacious lecture halls, each accommodating more than 150 students. The Central Library houses a rich collection of over 7,000 books, along with a wide range of national and international journals. It also includes two dedicated reading halls—one for postgraduate students and another for faculty members.
For recreation and fitness, the campus features extensive indoor and outdoor sports facilities, including a gymnasium, basketball court, shuttle (feather ball) stadium, badminton and volleyball courts. Students can also enjoy sports like table tennis, football, soccer, round ball, and golf ball within the campus grounds.
