K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College, established in 1997, is named in honor of the renowned Tamil scholar, K.A.P. Viswanatham. Initially offering 100 undergraduate seats in medicine, the institution expanded its academic horizons by introducing postgraduate programs in 2007. The college is affiliated with the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, a key teaching hospital located just 2 kilometers from the campus. Operated under the Government of Tamil Nadu and recognized by the National Medical Commission, the college is situated in Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Tamil Nadu.

The college admits 150 students to the MBBS course once every year through NEET. Of this 85% is state quota which is allotted by DME of Government of Tamil Nadu and the remaining 15% is All India Quota allotted by MCC of Central Government of Republic of India.
